So, I'm at orientation now, typing this at 12:15 AM. We leave for Germany tomorrow evening...I should probably be sleeping. But I really can't. To make things short, we had a bunch of workshops, visited our Congressmen in DC, and ate a cultural dinner. The most important thing I learned here was that I needed to be the one to take initiative, whether it be asking to join in on an activity or just plain old talking. I'm pretty bad at breaking the ice, though. Most people just end up not knowing the real me (the quiet me who rarely shows any facial expression, haha), which wouldn't be acceptable in Germany. I've also learned (no, actually I knew this already and the orientation just reinforced it) that I am the most clumsy person in the world who creates tons of misunderstandings because it is hard for me to finish my thoughts/ make a complete sentence in English. Therefore, I really just like to listen and soak in everything (so that I can write posts like these).
I will write a more detailed post about orientation (one that prospective applicants might be interested in reading) once I can get on a bigger computer. This tiny laptop is killing me.
