Hang Outs: German Style

Since Germans can drink starting at age 16, they live their hang out culture there. I know, it sounds like I'm just perpetuating the stereotype, which I feel extremely bad about doing. However, it is to some extent true. My German friends from the nearby university tell me that they go at least once a week.

Bars are new to me, because in the US, you have to be 21 to drink. But since I'm in Germany, and this is quite ingrained in their culture, it would be slightly impolite to just blow off an invite. Plus, I like hanging out :) So when Fabian asked if I would like to join him and some other uni students for some fun, I happily accepted.

We met in front of the Schloss (castle) at 8:30, and headed to a bar called Luke 24. It was pretty nice--the atmosphere was good, and the music was also up to par. I ordered a Fritz Melone, while everyone else ordered cocktails. Yep, typical me, I hate drinking. But guess what? I actually found a drink that I liked: white beer with banana juice. Probably doesn't sound so appealing, but it was good. The Pina Colada cocktail was also yummy, but a bit too sweet. I didn't actually drink the whole thing; I just sipped out of others' glasses.

Here are some photos from last night, and sorry about the red eye. I have no idea what the heck happened. To get a better view, click on any photo to start a slideshow.

After the bar, we went to a disco, DAX. It was so darn packed, and everyone was just staring at me with the "What in the world is she doing here?" look. The bass tones penetrated through the floor, and it seemed as if the entire building was shaking. There were 2 rooms: one with more traditional German music (stereotypical German music), and the other with American disco music. All people were doing was pumping their fists in the air and moving about 1 cm to the left and right. It was also ridiculously hot in there, and my ears definitely got busted. Either way, it was still fun..because exchange is all about experiences :) I slept over at a Korean exchange student's dorm for the night, and the next morning, we woke up at about 11:30. After eating breakfast, she told me that there was a Flohmarkt nearby, so we decided to go. We thought it would be one of those really big yard sales, but it ended up just because a small, private, one household ones. DISAPPIONTED. Lol :)

Let's try to build something! A guy from our table is studying architecture, and he just loved building random stuff out of anything he could find.

The question: Will it topple?

Nope! :D

They want me to profile pic this. Probably not a good idea though :) None of these drinks were mine, but I drank some of that banana mixture, which is that really tall glass with yellow that you see there.

Afterwards, we went to DAX, a Disko, and chilled there until 2 AM. I have never done that in my life..but it was fun :D Always go to clubs wtih Germans--they know what they are doing. Now before I get yelled at for not wearing enough, I swear to you that I had my jacket. It was just in the locker, becuase I wasn't allowed to bring it in the dico (it was super hot in there anyways, wayyyy too many people). This was just one of our "fresh air breaks."
