I have so many things to write about, but so little time! It's driving me crazy, because I really do want to document it all. So before I forget, here's my story from yesterday. Ahem.
Basically, my English class decided to go see an American film together at the nearby movie theater, because every third Monday of the month is a "surprise movie" in English. The movie was to start at 8:00, and we had all agreed to meet at "Club 13" at 6:00. I had arranged to meet one of my classmates at the bus station so that we could walk to the club together, since I didn't know where it was. Well...
When I got to the bus station, I searched for my classmate for about 20 minutes. I couldn't see her anywhere, and unfortunately, didn't have her cell number either (bad planning on my part!). By 5:50, I was freaking out, and it was getting dark outside too (Germany obviously doesn't have long, sunny days). So I walked into a store to ask if they knew where this "Club 13" was. At first, no one understood me, because they said that they didn't know of any bar by that name. Then, they suddenly said, "Oh, you might be talking about Zimmerhof 13!" Well, you know, it would have been nice if someone in the class had actually told me the proper name of the club!
I walk to Zimmerhof 13 and am at the front door at precisely 6:00...because Germans are always punctual (not!). It looked like a sketchy building, so I waited outside for a while to see if anyone in my class would show up. Unfortunately, no one did, and it was getting really cold, so I headed inside. And no one from my class was there...
Then I really started to freak out because I thought I was at the wrong bar, haha :) I even called my host dad to see if he could find the phone number of someone in my class. Just as I was talking to my host dad, the girl who I was trying to find at the bus station comes in and runs up to me, saying, "Es tut mir sehr leid!" She had been at the bus stop and couldn't find me either. Then our teacher came in a few minutes later, and we headed upstairs to grab a table.
The waitress then asked if we would like anything to eat or drink..so each of us gave our orders, and I chose KiBa, which is Kirsche Banana, or Cherry Banana juice. When we were asked who was to pay for these drinks, all the students asked in a humorous way, "Herr Sievert...? :)" Our teacher ended up paying for all the drinks of those who got to the club early. Then we just chatted and waited for the other students to show up.
About 10 minutes before the movie started, we headed to the cinema. I asked the teacher if it was normal to sit according to the ones assigned on our tickets, and he said yes. So obviously, I proceeded to find my seat...and someone was already in it -.- I walked to the next seat over, and it wasn't a "normal" seat, but a double, connected seat. The teacher was behind me, and so I asked him why those seats were weirdly connected. He replied by asking if I was scared to sit "next to the teacher"...and I said no. So I ended up sitting in that seat. I didn't find that to be such a huge deal, because the chair was huge and could have easily accommodated 3 people--I still had my space, and it reminded me of a school bus seat. Suddenly, all of the students started laughing really hard, and I didn't know what was going on. Some girl offered me a seat next to her, but it was in the row below, and I didn't want to move down because it would seemed disrespectful to change seats just when the movie was about to start. Plus I didn't want to be the kid who "was scared of sitting next to the teacher."
WELL.
After the movie, I carpooled with another student back home, and while we were chatting, I asked her why everyone was laughing so hard at the movie theater. It turns out that those seats were for people who were dating. Epic fail...
Anyways..so the movie we watched was "The Seven Psychopaths." Let's just say there was way too much shooting, killing, blood..and none of the nude scenes were censored. Oh Germany...
