I used to think that hats and scarves were more like fashion staples. And in the US, they are. Most people wear super thin scarves that I never get the point of, even in the summer. Or they wear some kind of hat that is obviously not warm enough for the winter. So hence, I concluded that they were just "trendy." Not in Germany though. I made the huge, extremely huge mistake of not buying a scarf. Man, it is DARN FREEZING, and the winds are nuts in the morning when I have to walk to the "school" bus (public buses and school buses are mixed here). Yesterday, I realized that my lips were chapped so badly, and that my hands literally had blisters. I quickly went to Edeka and got myself a tube of Labello Hydro Pflege and Nivea Soft. If you know me, you know I NEVER buy hand cream. I just find it so useless. Well, not here.
People are also wearing mittens and gloves now. Don't make the same mistake as I did..dress warmly here. It's worth it, especially when you suddenly realize that your class demands the windows be open during Pause (school break)...even when it's snowing.
