I figured today would be a good day for a double post since I'm leaving for China soon. Since all sites belonging to Google are blocked there, it'll be a while before I can be posting again.
It's going to be a slightly awkward feeling trip though, because this is the first time my family has to rent somewhere to stay...even though our family technically lives there. And the fact that I have to come back to the US before going to HK is also weird...my roommate's dad had suggested that I somehow get a prison sentence for 2 weeks so I'd have somewhere to stay, hahaha. Knowing me, if I get into prison, it would be for something ridiculous.
I'll be looking forward to seeing my family again and the good food. These are really good (Oyster Pancake):
I won't be looking forward to the weather and putting my life on the line just to cross the street. I will also not be looking forward to pickpockets and people with rolled up t-shirts who cannot stand the heat. If you don't know what I'm talking about with the t-shirts:
I just don't really get this--if you're so sweltered by the heat, you might as well just not have a shirt. The shirt probably gets unrolled at random times of the day, and that would just be annoying. I could not imagine anyone staying sane walking down the streets in China with such tight clothing and a tie in the summer either...that would be horrible.

So maybe the presentation isn't always so great for this. But it's okay, because it tastes amazing! |
This is also another typical Xiamen dish, although I have no clue what it's called in English. I don't like it that much, but my mom (and a lot of other people) love it. Beware, there may be a huge dollop of wasabi underneath (or on top of) this. Just a general warning for people who don't like spicy stuff!

Explain to me the point of buying a t-shirt, sir. |
I will also look forward to visiting my parents' preschool, hahaha. Or their middle and high school, maybe. I never had a great impression of the high school that used to be near our house, or of some of the issues that went on in my high school. I don't want to see PDA in the front of my door, much less people's pants and undergarments that are so low...but that's what some of those security guards had to deal with:
"SIR, pull up yo pants and zip em'."
"Look at whatchu' lookin' at."
"I'm a 60 year old grandma. I can look anywhere I want."
I just don't look forward to any situations like these, and yet...I just feel like I'm slowly working with with older and older...and older students...or prison education maybe? Hahaha. At least I wouldn't get lost in prison.
Anyways, life is always interesting. I'll just take it as it is, haha. It will be hard for me to blame students for wanting attention or getting into trouble, because there's usually a bigger problem underneath that doesn't warrant punishment, but just more mutual understanding. Who knows. I think I have to be a whole lot more assertive and (my definition of) "mean", which is apparently other people's definition of "normal."
Well, see the world in a few months! I'll probably get to write when I'm in the HK. No firewall there :D
