Yay, second semester is starting! I'm so freaking excited, because I don't have Bio anymore. Ok, I'm kidding (actually, only half kidding :). So a lot of people have asked about my school schedule, so I decided that the easiest way is just to post mine:
7:40(Start)- De PW EN De EK
9:15(End)- De PW EN De EK
9:35(Start)- EN Ma XX PW Ma
11:05(End)- EN Ma XX PW Ma
11:25(Start)- Sn EK Ge De XX
1:00(End)- Sn EK Ge De XX
1:30(Start)- Re De XX XX Sf
3:00(End)- Re De XX XX Sf
So, if you haven't noticed already, Germans love using abbreviations. This was so confusing on my first week, because no one bothered to tell me what they were until I asked. So here's the key:
De: Deutsch PW: Politics Sf: Seminar/ Research
EN: English Ma: Math XX: Free Period
Sn: Spanish Ge: History
Re: Religion EK: Geography
That's a total of 9 classes. I technically have 10, because I take two different German classes--one with the 7th grade (Grammar), and one with the 11th grade (Lit). I will also take Canoe for 4 hours on Fridays starting in April, when there's better weather around here.
So now you might be wondering what is with the capital and lowercase letters. Basically, not only does Germany have divisions in schools (Hauptschule, Realschule, and Gymnasium), it also has divisions within the school (similar to Regular, Honors, and AP Courses). Double capital letters represent the equivalent to AP, and for me, the others are Honors (but in Germany it's called "Grundkurs", which makes it sound like "Basic Course" instead).
Religion is required in Germany, and you can pick one of three choices:
a) Christian (Evangelical)
b) Catholic
c) Wert/Norm (similar to Philosophy) It's like for people who are atheists.
Lunch goes from 1:00-1:30 everyday, but I don't care and just eat at 12, because I'm starving by then. There are always pauses between classes (5 or 20 minutes), and people eat at that time too. There is no cafeteria at my school, either. I think most schools in Germany don't have cafeterias, but have a "snack stand" instead. There, they sell all sorts of bread, sandwiches, and desserts.
They sell these Studenplan charts all over the place. Doesn't this one fit me perfectly? :D
